Most of the synchronous sessions for Computers and Writing 2001 Online will take place in the C&W 2001 Online Conference Center at the MOO Connections. For an idea of what these sessions might be like, check out these CW99 Online session logs.

For experienced MOO users

  • If you're an old hand at MOO, you can check out Connections by pointing your favorite MOO client at connections.moo.mud.org 3333.

  • MOOs can vary, and even old hands will have questions. If you need help, please consult the many tutorials and other resources on Connections's home page, or see the information below for new MOO users.

For new MOOers

  • Connections's home page has new MOOer tutorials. This tutorial for guests is useful if you don't have a Connections character. If you do have a character (if you registered for the conference) read about moo clients and then try to connect with the connection tips.

  • We will offer MOO practice sessions for new users. A schedule of practice sessions will be sent by email to every participant and posted on our calendar. Take advantage of as many of them as you wish!

  • Designated MOOhelpers will be present at conference events.

For everyone

  • Get your own Connections character (user account)! Write to Tari Fanderclai, Connections administrator, at tari@nwe.ufl.edu. Say that you hope to participate in CW2K Online, and give your first and second choices for your character's name. Your character and password will arrive in your email.

  • If you don't get a Connections character sooner, you'll be given the opportunity to request one by checking the appropriate choice when you register for the conference on or after March 1, 2001.

  • tkMOO light is an excellent MOO client for those don't already have a favorite. tkMOO light is free, well-supported, and well-documented, and there are versions for Mac, Windows, and Unix (including Linux).

  • Connections's home page offers more information about clients.
