NWE Help: Email: Remote: Eudora

NWE Home :: Help :: Email :: Remote

One way to read your NWE e-mail from home is to reconfigure an e-mail client on you home computer. Eudora Light is one simple e-mail client which you can set up from home. These directions are targeted for Windows users and may not be ideal for MacOS users of Eudora.

First, download Eudora Light from Eudora's Web Site or get the CD ROM on sale at the HUB. It costs about $5.

Install the program on your computer:

  1. Exit any applications you are running including toolbars, memory management programs, window savers, and virus protection programs.
  2. If you are installing from a CD, insert the CD into your CD-ROM drive. The Windows 95/98/NT autoplay feature will cause the Eudora installer to launch. (If the installer does not launch, from the Start menu, choose Run and enter the CD-ROM drive letter and then setup.exe, for example, D:\setup.exe.)
  3. If you are installing from a software archive, double-click on it to start the Setup program.
  4. Installation begins, and you can see the InstallShield extract the Eudora files. When installation is done, proceed to configuration.

Open the Eudora program.
Look at the toolbar at the top--it reads File Edit Mailbox ... like this:

You need to enter information about your NWE account to use Eudora. From the Tools menu, select Options. The following dialog box will come up:

Eudora options
Eudora options dialog box

You will see several options on the left. Click on the Hosts icon. You will see the following:

Eudora hosts
Eudora hosts dialog box

In the first box (POP account) type your NWE username followed by @mailhost.nwe.ufl.edu, like this:
username@mailhost.nwe.ufl.edu

In the second box (SMTP) type the value supplied by your Internet Service Provider (ISP). If you are using Gatorlink, enter smtp.ufl.edu. If you are using a different ISP such as America Online you will need to consult their help for assistance finding the value to enter in this box.

Select Checking Mail on the left.

Make sure the first box says:
username@mailhost.nwe.ufl.edu

Select Sending Mail on the left.
Put your NWE class email in the return address box.

Select Personal Info on left:

Make sure POP account says:
username@mailhost.nwe.ufl.edu (it should already).

Put your name in the "Real Name" box and your NWE email address in the "Return address" box if it is not there already.

Now you're set, and Eudora should work just fine. If it does not, go over these directions again, and if that doesn't help, call the CIRCA helpdesk at 392-HELP for more assistance.
