NWE Help: Graphics: Intro: Displays

NWE Home :: Help :: Graphics :: Intro

There are a few differences between NWE displays and Windows or Macintosh computer displays.

First, NWE displays have 92 pixel-per-inch (ppi) resolution, compared to the 72 ppi resolution common on most computers. This means that images appear smaller on NWE screens than elsewhere.

You may notice that colors which look great on your home computer look different at the NWE. This is because of differences in the ways colors are handles on Microsoft Windows, MacOS, and our Sun Solaris system.

We have a page with some suggestions for using color on the web.

However, don't be too disappointed with what you see--keep in mind that while the standards for home computers in the US are very high, computers in schools and in other countries lag way behind. Sometimes it's smart to 'dumb down' your pages so they look good in the NWE--you can be assured that if your colors look good here, they'll look good almost anywhere else.
