NWE Help: Graphics: XV: Control Window

If you'll be using XV for anything worth mentioning, you'll need to open the the XV control window. After launching XV, right-click the mouse in the XV image window, and the control window should come up:

  • On the top right, in two rows, are six pull down menus which give access to many XV functions.
  • The large space at the left center contains a list of the open files.
  • The right center of the window has are six file management buttons in a vertical row.
  • Near the bottom is information about the currently open image -- the size (width x height), the file type, and the color mode.
  • Finally, at the bottom of the window, there are two rows of buttons which give access to core image functions.

Here's an overview of those core functions. In some cases there are links to pages which document the function in greater depth.

Copy the selection to the clipboard
Cut
Cut the selection to the clipboard and delete it from the image
Paste
Paste the selection on the clipboard into the image
Clear
Clear the selection
10% smaller
Make image 10% smaller
10% bigger
Make image 10% bigger
Rotate counterclockwise
Rotate image 90° counterclockwise
Rotate clockwise
Rotate image 90° clockwise
Flip horizontal
Flip (invert) image horizontally
Flip vertical
Flip (invert) image vertically
Grab
Save part of the screen as an image

Pad
Add to an image size
Text
Add a text annotation to an image
Crop
Cut image down to selected area only
UnCrop
Undo a cropping operation
AutoCrop
Crop based on borders or outside area
About XV
Display information about XV
Quit
Close all XV windows and quit
