Resources Connectivity

Computer Labs: CIRCA provides five computer labs to the University of Florida community. You must have a Gatorlink account with microlab service to use microcomputers in the labs. There is no charge for this access.

The labs have Macintosh, Windows 95, and Grove terminals, each with a full array of applications for word processing, Internet access, and web authoring. NWE students can use FTP to move files between the CIRCA labs and the NWE. Use the CIRCA labs if you have material on floppy disks that you want to transfer to your NWE account.

In addition to the CIRCA labs, student government maintains a computing center in the Reitz Union.

Software: CIRCA has pressed up a CD-ROM, available from the Hub bookstore, that has copies of both the dial-up configurations and major Internet applications. It is available for a small fee (under $5) and will provide you with the tools needed to do your NWE work from home. Additional software is available online; UF maintains a selection of useful software at their SODA Shop Web site.

Student Access Accounts: UF provides a number of ways to dial up to the campus network. Students in NWE courses will need to secure one of the following accounts to be able to access their work from outside of Rolfs Hall.

  • Gatorlink: general purpose dial-up account for UF students
  • Grove: CIRCA Unix account, good for hosting additional web pages
  • DHNet: Division of Housing's network, high-speed connections from UF residence halls
  • IBM ICE: low cost dial-up for students who want access outside of Gainesville
  • NERDC: UF's mainframe system, used for faculty and graduate student computing, LUIS.
