When there is a problem, you need assistance learning something, or you have a question about the NWE, we ask that you follow this procedure.

If you need help configuring a home computer...

You need to call CIRCA's Computing Help Desk (392-HELP) or consult CIRCA's help pages. Alternately, ask a friend or relative to help. The NWE staff are not able to help you configure your home machine.

If you need help learning the HTML editor, StarOffice, or another NWE program...

Experiment with the program, and then read the appropriate documentation on the NWE server. We believe that you'll find it easy to use. Information is broken up into small chunks to make it digestible and to make it easier to find information for certain skills.

Take a look at our problem solving section too -- it has recipes for fixing a lot of common errors.

Ask your instructor to help you. Your instructor has experience with NWE tools and may be able to get you out of a jam quickly -- or point you to a web page that can.

Come to the NWE after 5:00 pm daily or on weekends and see if the lab assistant in Rolfs 115 can help. Don't ask them to do your work for you; try to approach the lab assistants with specific problems.

If you need help learning HTML...

Ask your instructor to help you. Look at the HTML help on the NWE help pages. Browse the many references available online. Or switch to a WYSIWIG editor. But please don't ask NWE staff--we just don't have the time to help all of our composition students learn HTML.

If you suspect there is a problem...

If a printer is jammed, a server is down, or something just isn't right, contact the NWE help staff and we'll get right to it. Please provide as complete a description of the problem as possible, and include your NWE username if you are emailing from an outside address.

If you think that NWE systems are down, call 352.392.6294 and leave a message or tell a human what's going on.
