NWE Help: Remote: FAQ
- How do I log in from home?
- You need to configure dialup, then get an SSH client.
- I made some web pages at home. How do I get them to the NWE?
- You should use File Transfer Protocol, or FTP, to move files from your home computer to the NWE. Since the NWE has no disk drives, you may not bring your files in on disk.
- How can I check my email from home?
- There are many different ways to do this. You can use a remote client like Mozilla Thunderbird, you can forward your email to another account, or you can even use a server-based client like Pine.
- When I ftp files, it lets me send the text files, but not images. Why is this?
- To send both images and text files, make sure your ftp client is set to binary mode. For more info, read the help pages here.
- Why can't I connect to the ftp server?
- If you can get to our website (www.nwe.ufl.edu/writing), then our servers are operating. Reopen your ftp client and try again.
