NWE Help: Remote: FTP Introduction
NWE Home :: Help :: Remote :: FTP
Ftp (File Transfer Protocol) is a method for transferring files between two computers on a network. Ftp can be used to transfer files between your computer and your web space on NWE computers, or to transfer software or files to your computer from the NWE.
Ftp has two parts: the client and the server. The ftp client is a program on the computer you are using or are logged in to. The ftp server is a program on a remote computer that you want to connect to.
There are several types of FTP programs. Not all ftp programs are alike and you may find that your ftp client or the server you are connected to has slightly different behavior. Windows and Macintosh client software, such as ws_ftp or Fetch, presents a graphical, window-oriented interface. The standard Unix ftp program is a command line.
This help will provide introductions to all three options.
