NWE Help: Remote: SSH

NWE Home :: Help :: Remote :: SSH

ssh is Secure SHell--it makes an encrypted connection, like with an SSL-equipped browser, but from host to host. It has a much higher level of security than telnet. But for all practical purposes, ssh and telnet are identical to the end user.

For system security purposes, telnet access to the NWE is disabled. Only ssh access is allowed. There are versions of ssh available for Unix, MacOS, and Windows. Get one today from our download page.

You can access a wide variety of NWE functions from an ssh connection. You can't do everything that you can do if you were working from an NWE terminal, but you can get a lot of work done. If you have a Unix box and a broadband connection, you can run X applications remotely.
