In general, different word processing programs don't always work together. StarOffice can often open WordPerfect and Microsoft Word files, but not always. For maximum compatibility, save your files in Rich Text Format (.rtf) so that WordPerfect, MS Word, and StarOffice can all open your files.

If you forget to save a file as Rich Text, you can generally still open your files. To do so, just opne the files as you normally would by clickin on File -- Open. If the file doesn't appear in the file list, click on File Type and change it to "All". Then, click on your file and click "Open."

If your file still won't open, make sure it has an extension after the name. For instance, if you have a file named "bookreview1" make sure "bookreview1" hasan extension after it that denotes the program that made it, like .doc for
