NWE Help: Utilities: Restart Desktop
The NWE desktop uses a window manager called "fvwm" (which stands for flexible virtual window manager). Sometimes this program needs to be restarted -- for example, if you change your configuration, or if your display doesn't seem to be working properly. Restarting the window manager will also close any fvwm modules you have opened. Most NWE students won't ever need to restart the window manager.
To restart the window manager, click on the NWE menu, select Utilities, then select Restart window manager. After a short delay, the scroll bars, window bars, the NWE menu, and the task bar will all disappear, then be redrawn as the window manager restarts.
If restarting the window manager doesn't fix the problem you are experiencing, log out of your terminal and log in again. If you're still having problems, contact the NWE help staff.
