Please note: These help pages aren't designed to assist those who wish to compile, install or configure Apache -- rather, they are intended to assist NWE users by explaining some of the things which are user-configurable. More extensive documentation is available on the Apache Software Foundation HTTP project web site, at http://httpd.apache.org/docs/.
The NWE and CLAS both use the Apache web server, a community-developed web server used by more than half the web servers on the Internet. This server is also known as an 'http daemon', or 'httpd'.
NWE users can:
- restrict access to web sites to certain hosts
- require username/password authentication to view web sites
- use server-side includes (SSI) to add dynamic content
