NWE Help: Web: Authoring: Tutorial: Adding Images
NWE Home :: Help :: Web :: Authoring :: Tutorial
Your web page looks pretty good, but something is missing. What is it? Images! Follow the steps below to learn how to add images or graphics to your web pages.
The first thing you need to do is find an image and save it. The two most common ways to get an image in the NWE are to browse the web. You might also decide to create a graphic for your web page using some of the NWE graphics tools. Once you have found the image you would like to use, follow these steps:
Right click on the image you want to use.
Choose "Save image as..."
Be sure that your public_html directory is selected.
Name your image with a name that is memorable. A name like "dancingkitty.gif" is much better than "image1.gif."
Add a file-type extension such as a .gif or .jpg.
Click OK.
Record citation information so you may properly cite your image.
Once you have an image saved you are ready to include it on your web page. You are going to place your image at the top of the document (below the title) after the two line breaks (<BR>) and the center tag (<CENTER>) that you have already placed in the document; the </center> tag and a paragraph tag (<P>) tag should be between your image and the text below.
Left click to place your cursor in the document where you would like the image to appear.
Click the image button (right) on the second row of the toolbar.

A dialog box will pop up. Note: The dialog box may differ slightly in appearance

Click the search button (right) to the right of the "Graphics URL" text field. A list of the image files that you have saved will pop up.

Click on the image file you want to use.
Click OK. The image attribute editor will open and the image name will appear in the URL field; the image's HEIGHT and WIDTH will appear in their text fields as well.

Type a description of the image in the Alternative Text field. The alternative text will display while the image loads, if it can't load, or if a text-only browser is being used.
To Center or Right/Left align your image on your page, use the Align menu in the dialog box.
Add citation information for the image (if you borrowed it from somewhere) by typing the citation between the <SMALL> tag and the </SMALL> tag. Learn more about citations from the NWE citation help pages.
