NWE Home :: Help :: Remote :: FTP
FTP in itself does not provide a secure connection. There are two supported methods for making FTP secure:
- Connect from On Campus or Gatorlink
Connect with Gatorlink because Gatorlink connections are seen as on campus connections and so they are secured. On campus connections are secure and so they will work.
- Connect using VPN
-
VPN is a program that you can download and install and it stands for virtual private network. When you have VPN software on your computer, you can connect to the VPN. By using UF's VPN software, you will be connected to the virtual private network of UF. That means that you will be making a secure connection and then your computer will be seen as part of the UF network. You can use the VPN from any computer anywhere and you will still be seen as being part of the UF network. This allows you to have the same access as you would if you were connecting from on campus or through Gatorlink. To use the VPN, you will need to download and install the software.
See UF's VPN pages to download, install, and run the VPN software.
